 After Illidan's demise, the black Temple has been partially destroyed, dividing it in 2 wings. One controlled by the Broken and the shatrath forces and the other controlled by Illidan's strongest weapons - the Demon Hunters

With their master dead, The Demon hunters were left with a mission but with no allegiance. In the following years after their master has died, the demon hunters were left with a series of dangerous problems on their hands and being under constant attack by daemons wasn't the greatest of them. You can use wow game time card. Illidan was in direct control of the daemon hunters .He supervised every their action and most importantly the ritual of demonic empowerment.

Every Demon hunter had to undergo the ritual as often as once every few months. Unfortunately after Stormrage's demise, the ritual turned out to be quite a difficult task due to the different power of every demon essence. Illidan having his eyes burned by Sargeras himself had the ability to measure the power of the captured demon and was therefore in charge of picking the demons for the ritual. But there was a light at the end of the tunnel. Hel came from the most unexpected place. A'dal found a way to help the hunters with their problem. He found a way to clear the taint from the demon hunter's bodies but the price was a portion of their powers, making the demon hunters as strong as only a mere champion. Facing extinction the demon hunters were forced to accept the offer.

Having one of their problems solved the demon hunters charged at another one - the demons. Having felt the pretense of the Great one - Sargeras in the Emerald dream the Demon hunters returned to Azeroth with the intention of fighting the demon lord. Having realized that they cannot achieve their goal alone they joined forces with the alliance. 

After the storming of the Black Temple,the demon hunters were all but destroyed. However, Illidan had one last trick up his sleeve. Letting go of his soul, and then driving it back in, he avoided almost certain death, and took the remainder of the demon hunters to the very depths of the Black temple, where they lied hidden for 5 years. Illidan himself, however, had only one goal: destroying Sargeras. So he waited for the opportune moment to save the Alliance and Horde from certain demise, so they welcome him with open arms.
